NHS treatment guarantees

If you were provided a restoration as part of your course of treatment, and it fails within 12 months, we will carry out any work needed to repair or replace the restoration free of charge. This will not apply if:

  • within the 12-month period another dentist has carried out any treatment on the same tooth that has been restored, or
  • you were advised at the time of the restoration that it was temporary or a different restoration was more appropriate, but you insisted on a different form of restoration, or
  • the repair or restoration is a result of trauma

Lost or broken dentures

Regardless of when the denture was made, if you had a denture made on the NHS that you have lost or have broken, you will be entitled to a replacement at a cost of 30% of the current band three charge per appliance. The charge also applies to exempt patients.

Continuations of treatment

A continuation course of NHS treatment applies within two calendar months (less a day) of the date of completion of the original banded Course of Treatment, and where the continuation treatment is at the same band or lower. Continuation does not apply if the previous course of treatment was either urgent or incomplete.

This means that if you have a band two course of treatment, and for whatever reason within two months you require further treatment, provided that it is band two you will not be charged.

In addition, if you present for a continuation of treatment, an examination will also be conducted to check the health of the rest of your dentition.

If you require treatment in a higher band, you will need to pay the full cost of the treatment, not just the difference.
